2008 Auckland Chess Championship

It was a day of chess, chess and more chess for Marshall Laing Team A. Mrs Jacobson drove Prashant, Sean, Jin Kyu and I to the Auckland Chess Centre for our tournament. The place had two buildings, a tournament room and a between tournament room. There were 10 schools, 5 Intermediate and 5 Primary, we played everyone in the Primary section, that means 4 games. There was a total of 40 children, I was surprised only 3 were girls, 2 Intermediate and I was the only Primary.
We played well finishing 4th place with 10.5 points and 3rd place had 12.5 points.
I enjoyed the day, the games, the people, and the travel uniforms were comfortable.

Chess Club

Our chess club meets every Friday from 1.30 - 3.00. Some of us know how to play but some of us are just beginners. We take turns learning new moves and strategies. We play games against each other. Each year we have a school tournament as well. We are very lucky to have Mr Steiner and Mrs Jacobson to teach us but we also have to practise in our spare time and at home.

The Central Chess Tournament Videos

Hi,

The Production Film Crew has a video about the chess tournament. Marshall Laing Victory!! Watch this!

The Chess Tournament

It was a challenging day. Some people were really hard to beat because they had really good strategies. Some people hadn't practised enough and I was able to beat them. At first, my team were quite nervous so didn't play well but after several games they got better and used better strategies. Our team was proud to come third.

Central Auckland Chess Tournament

Marshall Laing Primary School hosted the Central Auckland Chess Tournament in 2008! This was a thrill, just think, out of all the schools taking part Marshall Laing Primary was chosen to host! All Marshall Laing's teams worked as hard as anything! Marshall Laing's Team A won the tournament!!!!! Most of our players who were in other teams got medallions for being best in their rank. Congratulations to all of them. Marshall Laing gets the chess trophy for 1 year then hands it over to the next winning team. If you look on the back of the trophy it has the names of schools that won...
